In a 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that youth sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole have the right to an eventual parole hearing. The ruling in Montgomery v. Louisiana, clarifies the court’s landmark 2012 ruling, Miller v. Alabama, in which the court barred mandatory sentences of life without parole for youth.
