The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) provided an update on the Section 298 Initiative today. The Section 298 Initiative is a statewide effort to improve the coordination of physical health services and behavioral health services in Michigan. The Michigan legislature approved a revised version of Section 298 as part of Public Act 107 of 2017. Under the revised Section 298, the Michigan legislature directed the department to develop and implement up to three pilots and one demonstration model to test the integration of physical health and behavioral health services.
MDHHS also published a new white paper on the Section 298 pilots today. MDHHS developed the white paper as a complimentary work product to the November report. The white paper expands on several of the concepts that were outlined in the November report. The white paper is also an intermediary step between the publication of the November report and the posting of the Request for Information. The goal of the white paper is to provide clarification and guidance to stakeholders about the department’s current vision for the structure of the pilots. The white paper can be accessed through the project webpage by clicking here: www.michigan.gov/stakeholder298.
