Supporting Youth Mental Health At Every Stage

Supporting Youth Mental Health at Every Stage

A young person’s mental health can shift over time. The continuum helps you recognize where your youth may be and identify opportunities to support them early — not just during a crisis.

💡 Support is valuable at every stage, not just during a crisis.

The Continuum

Youth may move back and forth along the continuum. The goal is not to “label” where they are, but to recognize changes and respond early when possible.

What Each Stage Can Look Like

🟢 Baseline Wellness

  • Stable sleep, activities, and connection
  • Engaged in daily life
  • Feeling generally okay

🟡 Early Warning Signs

  • Withdrawal or irritability
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Declining school or social engagement

🔴 Crisis

  • Suicidal thoughts or self-harm
  • Inability to function
  • Safety concerns

🔵 Recovery & Support

  • Exhaustion or emotional aftermath
  • Gradual return to routines
  • Ongoing support needs

Why This Matters

  • Mental health needs are not all-or-nothing
  • Early support can prevent escalation
  • Recovery takes time and continued support
  • Families deserve support at every stage

What You Can Do

💡 If something feels “off,” trust that instinct. You do not need to wait for a crisis to take action.
