In honor of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, ACMH offered a three-part virtual event to support youth/young adults and their families to share their voices and stories to spread hope, connection, and mental health awareness. From April 9th through May 7th ACMH hosted activities and created space for youth/young adults and their families to create videos that capture what it’s like to walk in their shoes or share a mental health awareness message that is meaningful to them. Videos were then shared on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & TikTok, using the hashtag #WalkInMyShoes. Then, on Friday, May 7th ACMH hosted a special virtual screening event to showcase all of the submissions that had been received which can be viewed in its entirety below. Families, youth, young adults, community partners and policymakers from across Michigan attended the virtual showcase and were treated to a moving collection of powerful works!
Every journey begins with a single step and we want to thank all of you who walked along with all of us on this Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day! We are so thankful to all of you who participated by sharing the story of your mental health journey and what it’s like to walk in your shoes! You not only helped us to raise awareness about the importance of children’s mental health and shine light on the real experiences of children, youth and young adults and their families but also helped to make the world a little more hopeful, connected and let others know they are not walking this journey alone!
For those of you who would still like to share your story or message ACMH will continue to accept videos for social media and website after the screening event. If you would like some ideas about what or how to share click here for examples and tutorials for posting your video on social media or you can view a recording of ACMH’s Strategic Storytelling and Social Media Workshop which was held on April 10 below..
Thank you all for joining us in our celebration for Children’s Mental Health Awareness and taking time to elevate messages about mental health that often go unheard. Everyone’s journeys are powerful and we hope that this event can bring us all together to build understanding, hope, and connection around mental health challenges!
